Virtual Open Day - 23 October
Students at El Altillo International School place sustainability at the heart of their learning. Here they actively engage with environmental issues through and adopt eco-friendly practices in daily school activities. From using resources responsibly to taking part in ecological projects, students develop a lasting sense of responsibility towards the planet. The Eco-Code of Conduct, embraced by the whole school community, guides their commitment to improving environmental attitudes and achieving a sustainable future. Students lead the way in promoting sustainable habits, ensuring these values shape their future actions and lives.
Small actions create a big impact. Through this programme, our students bring waste-free snacks, avoiding single-use plastics and aluminum foil. Through this initiative, they build sustainable habits and increase environmental awareness in their daily lives.
Our students lead the way with responsible habits. In the school canteen, they separate plastics from organic waste, which is later turned into compost. Through this process, they learn the value of recycling and the circular economy.
Our commitment to the planet goes beyond the school. At El Altillo, students take part in international initiatives such as World Cleanup Day, joining millions of volunteers in cleaning up natural and urban spaces. Through these activities, our students learn that every small action counts in environmental conservation.
Change starts in our community. During Community Action Day, students work together to clean up the city and restore polluted areas. This experience inspires them to take impactful action and develop a sustainable mindset for the future.
Sustainability is a part of our daily learning. Through dynamic activities, our students explore the meaning of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their impact on the world. This approach helps them understand the importance of global action and develop a sense of responsibility for the planet’s future.
Growing to learn. In our school garden, students experience first-hand the importance of sustainable agriculture, respect for nature and the food cycle. Through this hands-on experience, they develop healthy habits and environmental awareness, learning that every planted seed is a step toward a greener future.
Reduce, reuse and recycle are the foundation of our action plan. At El Altillo, students learn the importance of avoiding unnecessary consumption and giving materials a second life whenever possible. Through this daily commitment, they develop responsible habits that have a positive impact on the environment.
Every drop and every watt counts. Our students are encouraged to use water and energy responsibly through sustainable practices in their daily lives. In addition, they follow sustainable practices, embrace renewable energy and understand how small actions protect natural resources.
Caring for the planet is part of our learning. Our students explore environmental topics across all subjects, sometimes in a cross-curricular way, connecting sustainability with different areas of knowledge. This fosters comprehensive ecological awareness and prepares them to make responsible decisions in the future.
Students support NGOs by donating materials and clothing. Through these actions, they learn the value of sharing, reducing waste and making a positive impact on the community.
Our Green Point is a space dedicated to the proper separation and recycling of waste. Students actively participate in this process, helping to reduce the school’s ecological footprint. Through this initiative, they develop environmental responsibility and commitment to a more sustainable future.
Direct contact with nature is key to developing ecological awareness. At El Altillo, students take part in natural excursions to where they can observe, explore and appreciate the environment. Through these experiences, they understand the importance of protecting their surroundings and develop a deep respect for biodiversity.
Our students apply their knowledge and creativity by participating in external competitions related to the environment. One example is the Diario del Agua contest, where they present their ideas and projects on sustainable water management. These experiences strengthen their learning and encourage them to become agents of change in their community.
Every two years, students explore a key environmental topic, such as climate change, and explore it in depth through activities and projects. The results are displayed on a board in a common area, allowing the whole school community to reflect on their impact and the importance of sustainable action.
Education for a responsible future
Students at El Altillo International School connect knowledge with purpose from the very start of their learning journey. Every day, they engage with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developing social, environmental and global awareness through meaningful, real-world learning.
In our trilingual international environment, students practise empathy, take responsible decisions and think critically - skills they carry beyond the classroom. Surrounded by visual reminders of the SDGs, they are inspired to take action and see the relevance of their learning in a wider context.
Students grow not only academically but also as thoughtful individuals, ready to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.
Education rooted in the real world
Students at El Altillo International School take an active role in practising global citizenship. From an early age, they explore issues such as recycling, healthy habits, biodiversity and food waste, building awareness and responsibility through meaningful learning experiences.
As they grow, students participate in volunteering, social initiatives and community projects, applying their knowledge in ways that benefit others. They follow a unique learning journey that blends the national curriculum with international programmes like the International Early Years and Primary Curricula, the IB Diploma and the Focus on Learning framework.
With the Sustainable Development Goals embedded across all subjects and stages, students connect their learning to global challenges and are empowered to make a lasting, positive impact.
Educating global changemakers
Students at El Altillo International School lead the way in sustainability, turning learning into action through visible and meaningful initiatives. They grow as confident communicators, open-minded thinkers, caring individuals and principled leaders, ready to make a difference in a global context.
Through their work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, students actively embody the school’s Learning Outcomes: they become innovators, leaders, communicators, open-minded, caring, multilingual and committed individuals.
Our Sixth Form students support the El Salvador community kitchen weekly, preparing food parcels for people experiencing homelessness.
Students take action to fight hunger by organising food drives, collaborating with the Red Cross during the Gran Recogida, and tackling food waste through classroom discussions and practical initiatives.
Students develop healthy habits from an early age, visit care homes and mental health centres and engage in first aid and stress management training to support their own well-being and that of others.
Students benefit from a rich and inclusive learning environment, making the most of access to technology, language learning, a Fab Lab, STEAM activities and personalised academic support.
Students lead and participate in sustainability projects such as Zero Waste Breakfasts, Earth Day events and maintaining the school garden, encouraging responsible choices and shared responsibility.
El Altillo is a proud member of the international Eco-Schools network and one of the few schools in the province that has been awarded the Green Flag - a symbol of environmental and educational commitment. Our Eco-School team leads campaigns, projects and activities throughout the school, empowering students and promoting responsible leadership from an early age.
